Local Publication
Contest
This contest encourages local chapters to create
publications in order to promote awareness of JCL and the Classics.
The NJCL Editor will evaluate submissions and will announce the
winning entries at the NJCL Convention.
Newsletters are an excellent way of keeping members
informed about deadlines, fundraising, certamen practices, meetings,
and other notable events. Newsletters increase participation! After an
event, students can write articles summarizing the activity and their
reactions. Publications can also be distributed to parents, teachers,
alumni, and curious strangers at community service events.
Publications reach people outside the organization and publicize
activities with a wider circulation than word-of-mouth. In addition to
disseminating information and publicizing the Classics and the NJCL, a
local publication is an opportunity for chapter members to
collaborate. When students work together to produce a newsletter, they
not only improve their club and learn the skills of writing and
editing, but they also cooperate for a common cause. By devoting their
energy to an organization they care about, students will understand
the importance of teamwork.
Many chapters already have local publications and simply need to
submit sample publications to the NJCL Editor. If your local chapter
is interested in starting or improving a newsletter, please feel free
to contact the NJCL Editor, Caitlin Johnston. In addition, all editors
and other individuals interested in publications are encouraged to
participate in the online Editor forum on http://www.njcl.org/forums/.
Submissions to the Local Publication Contest must be student produced
and include the name of the editor. A chapter must submit at least two
issues of a newsletter to be eligible. Promptly send each issue to the
NJCL Editor as soon as an issue is printed:
