NJCL Publicity Contest

Each JCL chapter is eligible to enter the National Publicity Contest.  A chapter does not have to be present at the National JCL Convention in order to win.  Since the purpose of the National Publicity Contest is to promote Latin to those not already aware of its value, all publicity items must be essentially about JCL and/or Latin or classical studies.  All articles in this contest must have been written or initiated by the club that submits them.  The contest runs from June 1, 2007 to May 31, 2008.  Only materials from this period will be accepted.  All items submitted should contain the chapter's name and state.

Trophies will be given to the 15 top scoring schools, the best overall newspaper coverage, and the most original publicity.  Certificates will be awarded to the top 30 schools as well as the states that have the greatest percentage of chapters entering the contest and the largest number of chapters entering.  Recognition will also be given to the three top scoring schools with the new JCL chapters or pre-existing chapters with new teachers that enter the contest.

Entry Requirements

Entries must be postmarked by June 1, 2008 and submitted to

Mr. Jeremy M Walker
209 Maple Street
Crown Point  IN 46307

Schools must include a cover sheet containing the sponsor's name and home phone number or personal e-mail address in case clarification of an item is needed.  Sample verification forms and other forms to make the preparation of entries easier will be posted on the NJCL Web site as the year proceeds.

Please note:

  • Late entries will lose 10% of their points for each day they are late.

  • Entries sent via registered, certified, or over-night mail that requires a signature for delivery will lose 25% of their points. (Enclose a self-addressed, stamped postcard for acknowledgement of receipt of materials, or indicate to what e-mail address confirmation should be sent.)

  • Any falsification of entries by a school will result in that school being ineligible for the entire contest for that year.

  • Points will be subtracted or items disqualified if required information is missing from the entry.
