NJCL Web Site Contest
 |
The 2008 contest is now closed to new entries.
|
The NJCL Web Site Contest consists of three
categories: local chapter web sites, state/provincial chapter web sites, and
individual web sites. Deadlines and judging criteria differ between
individual sites and
state/provincial and local sites; the criteria are detailed separately
below.
To aid in assessing the dynamic nature of the entries, sites may be
evaluated multiple times during the judging period using
the latest available versions of any of the following: Internet
Explorer for Windows, Internet Explorer for Macintosh OS X, Mozilla Firefox
for Windows, Mozilla Firefox for Macintosh OS X, or Apple's
Safari. Webmasters should carefully consider the impact of
incorporating browser-specific functionality into their sites.
Due to the nature of digital materials, it is easy to
unintentionally commit copyright infringement. If the judges discover
copyrighted materials reproduced without permission, that site will be
disqualified from the competition. If you have received permission to use such
materials, contact the NJCL
Technology Coordinator for instructions on where to send the written
permission of the copyright holder.
Individual
Sites
Individual web sites must have been developed by
JCL member(s) in good standing; these sites should have a classical theme
and are limited to one entry per person or group.
Judging for individual sites will be
conducted during the month of April 2008 and employ the following
criteria.

State/Provincial
and Local Chapter Sites
These categories are limited to official
sites of chapters in good standing; therefore, each chapter is held to at
most one entry. Web sites must have been developed by
JCL member(s) in good standing; however, sites may contain materials
developed by previous webmasters who are no longer JCL members.
There are two discrete areas in which state and local sites will be
judged:
Currency of information. To
keep members informed and engaged, a web site should be frequently updated
to cover recent events and provide information on upcoming activities.
Each entry to the contest will be eligible to earn five (5) points
per month (from October through March) for a total of 30 points.
To earn these monthly points, webmasters who have entered the contest,
must e-mail the Technology
Coordinator - ONCE monthly - with a list of links or other
descriptions pointing to the areas of the site that have been updated or
added during the previous month. To be considered for the five
points, the e-mail must be sent to the Technology Coordinator by midnight
of the first day of the following month. For example, to be
considered for 5 points for February 2008, the e-mail must be sent by
March 1, 2008.
Site design and execution. The
second facet of judging will take place during the month of April 2008,
and will involve an in-depth examination of the site against various
judging criteria as provided in the rubric below.
