The Creative Arts contests at the NJCL convention include both performance contests as well as contests where students create a product. There are pre-convention contests, contests that take place in-person at convention, as well as contests that take place virtually at convention. Learn more about each specific contest below. COSTUME
Rules and Theme
Students create an original costume based on a theme that is chosen for the costume contest each year. They display the costume in a video, describing to the judges its creation in detail and connection to the theme.
DRAMATIC INTERPRETATION

NJCL Pronunciation Guide
Two passages for each level are chosen every year. Students perform one of the passages from their level live in front of a small group of judges.
ENGLISH ORATORY

Oratory Overview
Students create an original oration in the style of an ancient orator based on the convention’s theme, and perform the oration live in front of a small group of judges.
ESSAY
Rules
Students write and submit an essay virtually in response to a prompt that is given at convention.

MODERN MYTH
Rules
Students write and submit virtually either an original myth or an original update of a classical myth.
SIGHT LATIN

Students are given a passage at their level that they have not seen to read aloud, in Latin, live in front of a small group of judges.
SLOGAN

Students write and submit virtually an original slogan that promotes Latin and/or JCL.
